  • Launching, Loading Out and Skidding Structures

Client: Iran Marine Industrial Company (SADRA)
Location: SADRA Offshore and Shipbuilding Yards
     Project Start Date:  2010
      Project Finish Date:
Scope of Work:  Detail Design, Technical Supervision on Construction Works and Site Activities
     Brief Description:
SADRA Offshore Yard, located in Bushehr City, south west of Iran, has been extended with dredging operations to establish a larger artificial island for constructing offshore oil and gas extraction facilities e.g, jackets, topsides and jack ups related to South Pars gas field development projects, new phases 13, 17-18, and 22-24, Persian Gulf, Iran. Various types of infrastructure systems such as launching structures (e.g., Jack Up Slip Way) and skidding structures (e.g, Skid Ways No. 1, 2, 3, HPA) have been designed and constructed in the mentioned yard.

These skid ways can cover the jackets and topsides with different leg spans from 13 m to 25 m. Technical supervisions on dredging activities and reclamation have been done and various soil improvement techniques have been employed in this area. The skid ways are composed of heavy concrete deck structures, supported on large steel and concrete pile foundations. The total length of designed skid ways in SADRA Island by PIRECO is around 600 m and their maximum capacity is approximately 140 ton/m.

The intermediate steel skidding structures such as skid beams and skid shoes as well as load supporting frame (LSF) have been analyzed and designed to transfer the weight of platforms to concrete deck structures of skid ways. The designed slip way for launching jack up in SADRA Island has 100 m × 105 m area and can be utilized to launch a LG350 MOD jack up rig as well as the lighter ones. It comprises launch way beams, frontal concrete structutes supported on piles, waterfront structure and sliding way. It has 11 longitudinal lines and each line can tolerate41 t/m line load.

This kind of jack up slip way has been designed by PIRECO for the first time in Iran. Furthermore cradles, syncrolift, and shiplifting platform required for lifting and transferring vessels have been designed for SADRA shipbuilding yards.
